All your questions answered here!

Theres alot of common questions that I get asked, Iv tried to cover them all but if there is anything I havent covered here please feel free to reach out to me via the contact page below.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most asked question! It depends on hair type, length of hair, if its full head or partial dreads &if extensions are being added.

A rough idea would be anything from 6 - 10 hours includng breaks for partial dreads (half head / undercut)

For a full head it can take me up to 2 days sometimes more depending on how many hours we can fit in the day.

I start at the back working upwards, sectioning, backcombing & crocheting each dread.

If extensions are being added I will section the hair all over, dread row by row then add extensions.

For big jobs its best to book the day out so there's no pressure.

When dreads are first installed I say not to wash them for at least 2 weeks.

In general I recommend washing, your scalp once a week or once every 10 days, I use shampoo focusing on the scalp. I dont use conditioner. rinse thoroughly, Towel dry then some separating & palm rolling can be done, finish off with a hair dryer. I do advise using, a hair dryer after most washes to prevent dreads from staying damp, this can cause dread rot & the dreads to start to smell & become weak.

Everyone's pain tolerance is different, some areas are more sensitive than others. I have recommended clients to take a mild painkiller if they are sensitive to pain. The pain I'd say is like snagging/pinching at times or in certian areas but not unbearable.

When dreads are first installed Id say every 6/8 weeks is good to get the roots tidied up. everyones dreads mature differently & it does really depend on how you look after them.

Wash scalp a day or two before visit with just shampoo, no conditioner. Make sure hair/dreads is bone dry before visit. If sensitive to pain I would recommend taking a mild painkiller like paracetamol. Bring snacks & drinks as the sessions can be long,

I recommend wool dreads over synthetics as they are easier on the scalp, alot lighter & less itchy.

I section the hair first then braid the hair around the dread, securing with an elastic band.

It is normal for elastic bands to snap, If any do snap within the first 7 days from install, please let me know asap & I can re-braid for free. After this time I do charge my hourly rate.

Everyones hair grows at different rates, the dreads last anything between 4 / 6 weeks. Id reccomend hair to have breaks between having them reinstalled.

When dreads are taken out itsvery normal to feel like you have lost lots of hair, dont panic! after a good brush, wash & maybe evenr a hair mask hair will be back to normal.
